Celeste's Best Faq

1)Where can I find Celeste's Best products?

We have just begun in the production of Celeste's Best products. Please keep checking in with the website and we will update it as soon as products are available at grocery stores. In the meantime, it never hurts to request Celeste's Best products at your favorite supermarket. That way, when we approach them about carrying the products, they already know there is a demand for them. Good for us, good for you!

2)What does 'vegan' mean?

When a product is vegan, it means that it doesn't contain any ingredients that come from animals. The obvious examples are cow's milk, eggs, butter, and cheese. Not so obvious ingredients that are not vegan include honey, whey, casein, and anything with lactose. Celeste's Best does not use non-vegan ingredients in our products.

3)Why doesn't Celeste's Best use all-natural and organic ingredients, like other brands of vegan products?

The #1 priority for Celeste's Best has always been TASTE! We strive to provide our customers with the delicious tastes they remember from their childhoods. In my personal experience, I've found many brands of vegan, all-natural desserts to not satisfy my craving for a rich, decadent dessert. I also enjoy serving a cake to my non-vegan family and friends and have them never suspect for a second that it is different from any other indulgent-tasting treat they've eaten. Another priority for Celeste's Best is affordability. When trying to stay away from foods containing animal products, many people become discouraged when they compare prices. While we can't compete with the lobbyists from the dairy companies and the huge subsidies they enjoy, we work to keep our costs low, and the sad truth is that the cost of Celeste's Best products would soar if we used only organic ingredients. Hopefully, in the future, organic foods will be affordable for people of all incomes and companies like ours can use all organic ingredients.
Until then, we hope you find Celeste's Best products to be delicious and affordable.

4)Don't chocolate chips have milk in them?

Not all chocolate chips are made with milk chocolate, although the vast majority on grocer's shelves have dairy of some kind in them. Of course, the chips used in Celeste's Best Chocolate-Chip Cookie Dough is free of any dairy.

5)How can you bake without eggs?

It's true that baking can be tricky without eggs, especially for someone just starting out in egg-free baking. While some recipes don't need eggs at all, there are almost endless egg substitutes that work beautifully in even the most traditional recipes. Experimenting will help a baker figure out which substitute works best for which recipes.
Some common egg substitutes include arrowroot, potato flour, blended silken tofu, applesauce, psyllium, mashed banana, baking soda and vinegar, or Ener-G Brand Egg Replacer.

6)I've heard that sugar isn't vegan because it is processed through a filter made from animal bones. What's up with that?

The filter is usually referred to as a 'bone-char' filter, and yes, some sugar companies still use one. More and more sugar companies are replacing their bone-char filters with synthetic ones and the only way to know for sure is to directly contact the company you buy your sugar from. Celeste's Best doesn't use sugar that has been processed using a bone-char filter.
